In my humble opinion, one of the finest achievements of the 1980’s was the birth of Hair Metal. From the music itself, to the fashion and of course the hair, the world was taken by storm. I fell victim to the grasp of the music a few years back when I started to go see a local eighties metal tribute band play out in the bars around town. Originally driven to the show because the drummer and the bass player were my boyfriend’s brothers, I was hooked from the first set.

Up until that point my favorite 80s music was Madonna and if I’d had to have picked a favorite hair metal band I would have gone with something “mainstream” like Poison or Motley Crüe. However, since that fateful day, I’ve discovered a deep love for lesser known bands and the less popular stuff by even the big names. There’s something so much more fun (albeit a little cheesy) about being able to go out on a Saturday night and dance to music of days gone by.
My favorite band, by far, is Cinderella, but I do enjoy a wide variety of inspired guitar riffs by all the eighties guitar greats. My personal music collection has grown to include not just Poison and Motley Crüe, but also plenty of Skid Row, Dio and Ratt. I find myself locked into Hair Nation in my car more often than anything else and I now know almost any 80s Hair Metal song you throw at me, no matter how odd or unpopular.
