Journey: 80's music heavyweights

Journey is still rolling

Whether we want to believe it or not, the rock band Journey was formed back in 1973.  Journey was formed in San Francisco, CA by members of the legendary band Santana including lead guitarist Neal Schon.  The band was at their height of popularity in the 80’s.  They have gone through various incarnations over the years (most notably the replacement of wildly popular lead vocalist Steve Perry) but they still continue to tour and draw a large audience.  Currently, Arnel Pineda takes on the lead vocalist duties for the band and adds a touch of youthful exuberance while staying true to the trademark sound that is Journey.

November of 2011 saw a return of vocalist Steve Perry.  Perry sang 2 songs on Journey:  Greatest Hits:  Volume 2.  While Steve Perry seems to have been with the band through (arguably) through the time of the band’s highest popularity, Neil Schon has been with the band from the beginning.  Other band members have left the band at some point for some period of time.  Schon has an unbroken streak of being with the band from the beginning.

Currently the band is:  Neal Schon on lead guitars, Ross Valory on bass and vocals, Jonathan Cain on keyboards and vocals, Dean Castronovo on drums and vocals, and Arnel Pineda on lead vocals.  Jonathan Cain also does some work on rhythm guitars in the band.  They can be seen on tour this summer with fellow former 80’s heavyweights, Loverboy.  At this time the band has limited dates on their 2012 summer tour but look for more dates (hopefully) on their website www.Journeymusic.com.
