By now you've probably heard audiences raving over Bohemian Rhapsody and Rami Malek's incredible performance. It's definitely not without its criticism: not only are there plenty of creative liberties taken within the film, particularly in regards to Queen's timeline, but there is also some controversy regarding the film's portrayal of LGBT people. Some critics have said that it paints them in a poor light, depicting Mercury as a morally bankrupt person only when he embraces his true self, and he only redeems himself when he comes back to his straight friends.
While I can see this and people who believe it totally have the right to do so, I felt like the film followed the standard format regarding how a rock star, once faced with fame and fortune, turns to a life of sex and drugs. It felt a lot like sequences we've seen in films like Ray, for example. I did love the humor in the film and thought Malek did a fantastic job.
